How in the world is it already November!!? Time is flying. It is definitely getting colder here! And we are losing sunlight fast! I try to go on a short walk after school, but soon it will be dark, so I won't be able to   :(  Corbin and I try to go to the gym every night, each day it's from 7-8, and so far we have only played volleyball, and we are getting pretty good! But I think soon basketball will start soon. I've started teaching more, and I feel like it has been going pretty good! My kids started How to... projects this week. I'm hoping that we can go outside next week and take pictures for them. They're going to be teaching: "How to go Towing" (pulling a sled behind a Honda!), "How to go (dog) sledding", "How to make a ramp", "How to make Akutuq" (Alaskan ice cream), and "How to start a Honda". I'm so excited to see how they all turn out. I have been loving my handmade mittens made by one of my mom's ...

This week was a little calmer. I've been starting to teach more and more! :) We got our first snow!! The kids were all so excited, but I think I was even more excited than they were! The thought of having snow and not having to drive in it is pretty amazing!! Our neighbors have been bringing us some food. One day, it was moose soup, and the next, they brought over churros! I ordered some Kokhanok stickers, and I've been passing them out to the teachers and to the volleyball players. I think they are going to start selling them in the school store! Let me know if you want any, I'll send some home :) I made some brownies in a pie pan because we don't have an 8x8 pan for them. (they still taste just as good!!)  This weekend, we went on a really pretty Honda ride. We followed Connor and Gabby and just drove around the tundra. It was beautiful to see all the mountains with snow on them. I've started collecting driftwood, and I'm trying to think of crafts I can do wi...

Hey! Another busy week here in Alaska!! This week, I got to travel across the lake to another village called Newhalen. All the teachers in the district traveled for in-service training. This is the first time in years that the district has traveled for in-service. Usually they just do them over Zoom since it is so expensive to fly every from the district.  There are actually two villages right next to each other, so between the two, they have 3 stores, a real post office, and a paved runway! I was lucky enough to stay with one of the new teachers I met in Anchorage!! I stayed with Rebecca and Don, and it was like I was staying with Grandma and Grandpaw!! They kept telling me "make yourself at home!" and "help yourself to anything!" (sound familiar?) One night, they made soup for all the teachers at the school, but Rebecca and Don said to come over for dinner instead, and they made SPAGHETTI!!! I got to go to the one store and they had soft serve ice cream! It was s...

Hey everybody! Sorry it's been so long! Corbin and I have been very busy!! :)  The week of October 8th was super fun! A bunch of schools came to Kokhanok, and they all played volleyball for 3 days straight. There wasn't much instruction, but the kids were taking down data and graphing things like points scored, times the ball was hit on both sides, and aces! It was super fun to cheer on the players. The teams played 3 v 3 and 6 v 6. I got to write the schedule on the board so everyone could see when all the games were! One night, we had a bonfire and all the players came up the hill. One of the students brought a guitar and was playing music! I taught them to put peanut butter in their s'mores!! And it was a full moon. It was probably the brightest moon I've ever seen! On Friday, I got to run the scoreboard, so that was pretty cool! By Saturday, everyone was so tired that I don't think we left the house all weekend. ♡
