Today I was in the middle of teaching a reading intervention group when I looked out the window and saw a semi truck drive past. I must have made quite a face because my mentor teacher asked me if I was wondering how that got here. I had no idea. She told me there was a barge here. The next period, I had the middle/high schoolers, so I asked their teacher if we could go down and see it. She said yes! I told the kids they had to be my teacher today! They taught me that a barge is like a big flat boat that big freight comes in on. They don't come often, but when they do, they bring oil, vehicles, and other large items that wouldn't fit on a plane. After school, Corbin and I went to a KVC (Kokhanok Village Council) meeting. It was cool to be a part of it. They talked a lot about things that happen in the village, and each person who is in charge of something had to report. For example, our principal made a report on the school, the woman who runs the clinic talked about what was going on there, and the woman who is in charge of the KVC listed all that she has done, like what grants she has applied for and what money is available for the village. They had door prizes, and Corbin and I both won! Corbin won some kitchen utensils, and I won a bluey tea party set.
